If you are new to pressure washing and find your cleaning chemicals aren’t slipping off the surface too much, surfactants are here to help. Surfactants reduce the surface tension of water allowing the bleach to spread further and clean more deeply. Surfactants are chemical compounds with a hydrophilic head and hydrophobic tail. The hydrophilic end clings to the water and drives the hydrophobic end closer to the surface, loosening the dirt and other grime so it can be washed away without the need for scrubbing. We recommend either Secret Agent or Dragon Grip surfactant.
What Surfaces Are Safe To Use Surfactants On
When using surfactants, it is always recommended to test the chemicals on a small inconspicuous area of the surface you are going to clean to ensure it produces the expected results and doesn’t damage the surface. Softwashing with surfactants is generally safe on the following materials:
- Vinyl siding
- Brick
- Concrete
- Wood
- Stucco
- Metal
- Composites
- Shingles
