Quick-Connect Fittings 101
There are two general types of quick-connect fittings.
Male: Male quick-connect fittings are called plugs. Male quick connects have threading on the outside, and some are made with nozzles attached, enabling their use as adapters.
Female: Female quick-connect fittings are equipped with O-rings to prevent leaks. O-rings for female quick-connect fittings are called sockets.
What to Look for in Quick-Connect Fittings
To make sure you choose the right quick connect fitting for your applications, assess:
- Compatibility with your pressure washer and your desired connecting parts
- Warranty for peace of mind in case of product defects or malfunctions
- How the quick connect fitting will impact your flow rate
- How easy the fitting you’re considering is to use
You should inspect your quick-connect fittings regularly for signs of damage. Always remember to turn your pressure washer off prior to disassembling your quick-connect fittings.
Materials
Quality matters with quick connect fittings. Make sure the quick connect fitting you buy is designed well and constructed with durability in mind.
- Plastic quick-connect fittings are ideal if you’re looking for a light and budget-friendly fitting.
- Brass quick-connect fittings are corrosion-resistant and boast more strength than plastic without the cost of stainless steel.
- Stainless steel quick-connect fittings are superior in strength, corrosion resistance and chemical tolerance.
